Dr. Dennis Stubblefield

Message From Dr. Dennis Stubblefield, D.V.M.

Growing up on a dairy farm, my family had prize cows I would show in the 4-H contest. My cow's name was White Star and because of my love for her, I wanted to be a veterinarian to take care of her in old age. She died from old age (for a dairy cow) at 12 ½ years of age while I was attending the University of Illinois for veterinary medicine.

After she passed, I turned my attention toward my pet canine, Sox. I loved Sox nearly as much as I loved White Star, and I focused on taking care of him throughout his old age. My goal has always been to help you extend your pet's quality and length of life well into their old age.

A Long and Distinguished Career

Dr. Dennis Stubblefield, D.V.M. grew up on a dairy farm in McLean County, IL His intense love for all creatures developed during his years in 4-H and, in high school, in FFA. During his senior year in high school, he was awarded the FFA Illinois State Dairy Winner. His high school “girlfriend,” White Star, was a little different than the average high school sweetheart. She was the winner of the Illinois State Fair Jr. Milking Derby and the Holstein Breed Champion of the Illinois State Show.

His wish to attend to White Star’s potential health needs in her expected long life stimulated his desire to become an animal doctor. Unfortunately, White Star’s death, at the ripe old age of 13 ½ years, occurred just before the student earned his degree to become her doctor. His undergraduate studies in the College of Agriculture and his D.V. M. degree from the University of Illinois in Veterinary Medicine allowed him the opportunity to meet the lady who replaced White Star as his “girlfriend,” Jane.

Jane also grew up on a dairy farm, in Western Illinois. Soon after Dennis Stubblefield received his bachelor’s degree, Jane became his wife. After graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Stubblefield served 2 years in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) as a commissioned officer in the Epidemic Intelligence Service, stationed at the Southwest Rabies Investigation on the campus of New Mexico State University. From the Communicable Disease Center (CDC), in Atlanta, Georgia, he was a principal in the development of an oral rabies vaccine as an immunizing agent to control rabies epidemics in the wildlife populations of raccoons, foxes, and skunks.

After his service for USPHS, Dr. Stubblefield was the primary internist surgeon for a multiple-location, multi-veterinarian companion animal practice for 2 ½ years. Then, Dr. Stubblefield acquired Acre Hill Veterinary Clinic. He has been serving this community for the past 4 decades. Dr. Stubblefield has always had a passion for helping his patients receive the best medical care possible to live long and healthy lives. This includes ensuring that you have a complete understanding of proper care, addressing any questions or concerns you may have, and being available as health concerns may occur. Dr. Stubblefield and his wife Jane have 6 children: 3 of their own, 3 who joined their family through marriage, and 4 grandchildren.

They also have 2 cats, Matt and Bob. Matt is Dr. Stubblefield’s cat and he has been trained to do tricks, such as jumping through hoops. Plus, they have 3 box turtles: Tina, Toby (who is at least 25 years old), and their baby box turtle (who has no name), a Greek tortoise, and 2 African Spurred tortoises - Michael and Bernice. In Dr. Stubblefield’s free time, he likes to go camping with his family, to his grandchildren’s school, and to sports activities.
